The Gardens of Species is under way. This exhibition area will be entirely dedicated to plants used for our well-being.
The garden is French-style, surrounded by stone walls, and has two old gates on either side of it. It is dedicated to medicinal and aromatic plants. It is a true discovery garden, containing almost 250 species which can be admired, of course, depending on the season.
Squares have been designed following the garden’s geometry and the English Boxwood surrounding it. In the middle of the garden, a round basin awaits the fountain and stone statue that will decorate it.
Each Spring, the aromatic plants (Common Verbana, Mint, Basil, Dill, Anise, Chervil, Coriander, Thyme, Savory, Origano...), medicinal plants (St John’s Wort, Comfrey, Passion Flower, Sage, Skullcap, Red Clover, Arnica...) and perfume plants (Lovage, Marigold, Mugwort, Marjoram, Lavandin, Lemon Balm, Myrtle, Lantana, Rosemary...) come to life again.
There is also a toxic plants area (Ancolie, Autumn Crocus, Castor, Mandrake...) as well as a dyeing plant area (Dyer’s Woad, Madder, Broom...) which will expand with time. The Garden is embellished during spring and summer by Roses and Irises, both florets of the Val de Loire Region, south west of Paris, but also Peonies, Arums, Dahlias, Lilacs, and Lilies.
The park, which is currently being refurbished, offers a unique stroll itinerary, with places for discovery or aesthetic and educational surprises on each corner.
Reflection is being carried out on refurbishing the plant areas and creating a collection of gardens highlighting the diversity of biotopes living on the eight hectares.
A vegetable garden of rare and forgotten species and an orchard of old varieties of Apple and Pear trees, the development of the arboretum, respect for natural, rich in wild specie biotopes (humid meadows, Mauve riverbanks…), etc, all these have already been planned for.
The association takes part in educational meetings on the themes of Nature by opening its doors and providing botanical acknowledgement, information on biodiversity, discussions on protecting the Environment, etc.
To reinforce and optimise its action, create and encourage synergy, the Herboretum Association prides itself in working with other organisations with similar or complementary aims. It is currently a member of:
