Concepts addressed:
- What is biodiversity? (Species, genes, environments, selection and adaptation, specialization, ...)
- Life is everywhere including under our feet (living in the soil)
- Life moves everywhere and is organized
- That brings us to biodiversity? (Food, clothing, housing, fuel, medicine, oxygen, climate control, limiting erosion, wellness, ...)
- How does it expressed in our gardens? (Plants, insects, birds, mammals, amphibians, reptiles, horticultural varieties)
- How to preserve? Small reservoirs (concept of wasteland, the walls, the wood pile, the pile of stones, gardening practices respectful of nature, ...)

2010, the International Year of the Biodiversity
For the International Year of the Biodiversity, The Herboretum will set up an exhibition explaining concretely that is the biodiversity in a context of sustainable development.
Around this exhibition, 5 events will come to articulate, intended for the general public and for a regional echo. These events with different themes, will take the shape of guided visits of The Herboretum,
varied animations on the site
and around the exhibition.
All these events will take place between May and October, 2010.
The exhibition dedicated to the biodiversity
The exhibition will consist of educational panels and a collection of pen portraits illustrating the various aspects of the biodiversity in the garden.

October 2009
Sunday, October 11th 2009: 2nd edition of The Exhibition "Fruits of the Soil" at The Herboretum
For the second consecutive year, The Herboretum opens its doors on its October 11, 2009 on the occasion of the exhibition "Fruits of the Soil" organized in partnership with The Association of Apple Croqueurs Terroirs South Gâtinais and Apipioger.
Throughout the day, visitors can discover or rediscover a hundred varieties of apples called "classics" such as Queen of Reinette, Reinette Reinette Tramp or Orleans, but also regional varieties forgotten or ignored as Jolibois, Pied Nu Belle Fleur or Mary Magdalene.
Besides the exhibition, various workshops on the theme of apples will be offered to visitors:
Workshop "grafting"
The Association of Apple Croqueurs will give lessons about tree planting methods and size and maintenance techniques.
Workshop "making of apple juice":
This workshop will allow the public to know make a delicious apple juice local.
Visit the orchard:
Visitors can visit the orchard of The Herboretum, which brings together more than 80 varieties of apples including twenty varieties of the Region Centre.
Workshop on beekeeping:
An exhibition about the pollination of flowers of the orchard by bees and a demonstration on the art of beekeepers are also available to the public thanks to the intervention of Apipioger, beekeepers-growers in the Region Centre.
The Herboretum, garden of preserved and shared biodiversity of 9 hectares, holds regular Open Doors in collaboration with its partners to educate the public about the preservation of biodiversity.

May-June 2009
In May and June 2009, The Herboretum will open its doors to the public, and stage a variety of activities relating to biodiversity.
- Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th May 2009:
The Herboretum will celebrate nature for Nature’s Day. A plant and animal biodiveristy discovery-path will highlight the interaction between animals, insects, and plants.
- Friday 22nd May 2009:
The Herboretum will take part in the World Biodiversity Day. Biological diversity will be under the spotlight, with lectures by experts (scientific and beekeepers) who will share their passion and knowlegde on biodiversity.
- Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th June 2009:
The Herboretum will organise Rendez-vous in the Gardens. This event, now a favourite of the season, will shine the light on this 9-hectare garden of protected and shared biodiversity, revealing all the wealth Nature provides.
During these special events, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., visitors will be able to join several activities:
- Guided visits through The Herboretum gardens, accompanied by biodiversity specialists
- Activities and exhibition on beekeeping, with harvesting beekeepers who focus on protecting bees and biodiversity
- Bird discovery paths and exhibition with the Loiret region Bird Portection League (LPO) as a special guest, on Sunday 17th May
- Painting exhibition on the theme of nature, with regional painters, on Sunday 7th June

March 2009
On the 25th March, The Herboretum celebrated the Spring of Regional Biodiversity!
The Herboretum is a Garden of protected and shared Biodiversity. It opened its doors to celebrate the arrival of Spring!
For this first open day event in the season, organised in partnership with the Croqueurs de Pommes Terroirs Sud Gâtinais Association and a harvesting-beekeepers farm in the Centre region, The Herboretum offered the public a variety of activities based on regional biodiversity.
Throughout the day, thirty or so local varieties of Apple trees were planted in the orchard, and a dozen beehives were set up in the ecological gardens in the greatest interest of an attentive public.
The Herboretum would like to thank you for your visit, and hopes to see you again soon on the estate!
