"Our common house is burning and we are looking elsewhere. Nature is mutilated, overexploited and cannot reconstitute itself."
(Jacques Chirac, President of the French Republic. Wold Summit for sustainable Development in Johannesburg - August 2002).
The scientific evidence is clear: the impoverishment of biodiversity or biologic diversity has become a very important threat to humanity. Between now and 2050, 25 % of the species will have disappeared if nothing is done to bring this situation under control.
The disappearance of animal and vegetal species is consistent with evolution, but today, because of man related activities, 1 000 to 10 000 times more species are being eliminated than they would be eliminated by Nature alone.
But this erosion of life is neither ineluctable nor irreversible. This is why inaction is no longer acceptable.
To face such a vital stake, an association has been created and has decided to act and bring its own response.
On a 9 ha property, located in St-Ay, close to Orléans, the association (as per the 1901 law) gives life and leads a project called Herboretum, a garden of herbs, with a role of an ambassador of biodiversity.
Witness, actor and ambassador of biodiversity, the Herboretum avails itself to a program of actions articulated around 5 strategic axis to guarantee the safe-guarding of biodiversity :
- to preserve biodiversity, by cultivation techniques respecting the environment
- to prize biodiversity, by the presentation of a diversity of gardens
- to observe biodiversity, to better understand its complexity
- to participate to the follow-up of its evolution
- to increase the awareness of the public to its vital role.
