The Herboretum's Gardens Map (pdf)

"In a world directly confronted with the decreasing supply of plant species in a fragilised environment, it is impossible for a company evolving in close relation with Nature not to commit to the protection of biodiversity.

Biodiversity is diversity in landscapes, in plant and animal species, in people. It is the wealth of biological supplies for future generations. Unless something is done, a quarter of all species will have disappeared by 2050."

A Contemporary Stake

The terms and notions of biodiversity and sustainable development were mentioned for the first time in 1992, during the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro. For the first time the public was intrigued and governments became seriously interested in the matter. The subjects are now part of our societies’ preoccupations.

A Key to Sustainable Development

Biodiversity or biological diversity, has been defined as “any variety of life on earth”. It depicts the diversity of the ecosystems which make up a landscape, the diversity of animal and plant species and of individuals.

Biodiversity is essential for sustainable development: it represents the wealth of biological supplies for us, but also for future generations. It is man’s Life Insurance.

The Increasing Species Extinction

The extinction of species is a logical part of our evolution. However, man is nowadays destroying 1,000 to 10,000 times more species than Nature would on its own. By 2050, a quarter of all species will have disappeared…

The Need to Protect Biodiversity

Biodiversity must become a priority, as acknowledged by the Environment Charter in the preamble of the French Constitution as is the Declaration of Human Rights. It is our duty to protect the Environment.

The Herboretum – a Committed Association

The Herboretum’s missions apply to this context, they meet the stakes mentioned in the Charter and reflect many of its aspects.

The Association wishes to take part, through its initiatives, in efforts introduced by the Environment and Ecology Ministry in compliance with the French President. Its calling is to encourage mass acknowledgement by widespread information to the public. To do so, the association will turn to a variety of publics to make them aware and conscious of the surrounding plant heritage in order for them to care for it.
